There are ways to make your documents look a lot more creative.  This particular word wrap adds the look of old hand written pages often found in early literature with the readability of standard type.  Take the grunge images below into Photoshop, remove the white from them and insert the remaining images into a document as shown below.  Then go to Lorem Ipsum and generate four paragraphs of text and also insert it into the document wraping the text around the images.  To get the effect of the first letter, simply create another text layer with only the first letter, formatted in some sort of script style.

The details of technology aside, checking your facts is central to responsible journalism.  Anyone can claim their information is factual, but all it takes is a Google search for facts on the same subject to see that there is a lot of information out there that simply doesn't match up with other sources.  Your fact search doesn't have to end with a search engine.  Remember, you can still pick up a phone and talk to a living breathing human being.

If you are going to cite a something like a statistic, it's a good idea to let your readers know with a hyperlink or a reference list at the bottom of your post.

Site Feed

A site feed is what allows other people to subscribe to your blog.  The technical term is called a "feed aggrigator".  Basically it creates a mechanism that pushes your content to other locations every time you make a post.  This allows other people to subscribe to multiple feeds which in turn sucks yours and other content provider's content into a single location.  Essentially, it allows a person to customize a single web page to view content from multiple websites.

This is one of the big changes you'll notice as the web evolves.  Think of Twitter... you create ways for your information to go to your readers/followers instead of them coming to you.

a good blog is clean

Like all visual communication, it's important to keep your blog looking neat, clean and to the point.  If you're going to add additional elements, make sure you incorporate the space they take up into your overall visual design.  For example, if you're going to add a photo, make sure you wrap the text around the photo and don't simply leave it hanging out there in it's own little world.  Some text editors give you more specific control over your image placement.  Often you'll see "image property" settings that allow for "V space" and "H space"  Essentially, that's simply the vertical or horizontal distance between an image and text.  Running the text up against the image looks bad and generally unprofessional.
